Some Creative 8th Grade Science Ideas

Students in 8th grade know how it is to grab at straws when starting with their science projects.  Competition is quite high and everyone wants to get the top honors too, if possible.

What to Do

The first thing that you need to do is choose a topic from among the different branches of science.  A science fair project is not about showing people what you know, although that's certainly part of it.  It is, however, more concerned with getting answers to questions.  It is important that the topic you choose is something that you are really interested in and knowledgeable enough to handle.  After making this selection, you can move on to researching more about the topic in libraries, publications, the World Wide Web, and the industries that can help you.

The project is set in motion when you start writing down the purpose of your project, selecting variables that may come into play with your experiment, hypothesis, measurement of results, and describing the project in detail including the procedures you intend to follow.  What follows now is the actual application of what you actually wrote down in your to-do-list or your science project blueprint.  You should also religiously record your results.

Some projects will involve several tests and, thus, multiple results.  You can then plot these numbers in a graph or chart for easier reading and analysis.

You are almost done with your project at this point.  All that’s left to do now is to create a display for your science fair project which would exhibit at the day of the science fair.  If you can recreate the process that you actually followed, that’s even better.

At the day of the fair (or even before), you should also have a typewritten report.  This should show the details of your science project and the procedures that you've undertaken to complete it.  Lastly, practice your presentation with relatives and friends so that you'll be more confident when it's time to present your science fair to the judges.

8th Grade Science Fair Project Ideas that You Can Try

Your project can be about anything that you regularly see in your household or neighborhood.  It doesn’t have to be as complicated as a time machine.  Some ideas you could check out could be the process of ripening a fruit.  You can also study the effect of pesticides on plants or delve into the factors that positively or negatively impact the growth of plants.
