Tips In Making A Good Display For The Science Fair

Naturally, you want to include as much information in your display as possible.  This probably comes from the belief that if the judges can see everything they want to know by looking at the display, they're unlikely to ask any more questions.  This may well be true.  However, remember that this can backfire.  By including as much information and as many elements as you could cram into your display, your display may overwhelm the judges so much that they'd rather ask you questions than bother reading your research results or inspecting your science fair model.

Science fair displays are your means of showing off your science project.  Therefore, it is important that you exert every effort to come up with an outstanding display.  Here are a few tips for preparing your science project display.

The first thing to do before you start making your display for the science fair is to find out the rules regarding the types and size of the materials allowed in the exhibits.  You should ask the science fair organizers about any display paraphernalia that they will provide.  For instance, are the organizers going to provide the table or the display board?  If the response is negative, then you should make your own arrangements.  In this, too, you have to ask for the science fair organizers' go ahead.  Ask them how much space you have and what their restrictions are when it comes to displays.

The next thing that you should do is prepare your actual presentation.  Here, you should keep the rules in mind.  If multimedia presentations are not allowed, then don't prepare a multimedia presentation.  However, do be sure to settle on a presentation method that will show your science project to its best advantage.  Furthermore, be sure to prepare a highly visible presentation.  If you have a scale model of something, try painting it in luminescent colors so that it will still be noticed even in the crush.

A few days prior to the actual presentation, check out your allotted space.  Find out if there's an electric outlet nearby if you need one. Try to envision the possible obstacles to your presentation.  Moreover, judge the best position and placement of your display depending on the door locations, windows and lighting conditions.
