Science Fair Experiments Per Level

There are science fairs for kindergarten, for grade school, for middle school, for high school, and also for college levels.  Projects or experiments presented to science fairs vary in complexity depending on the grade level of student competitors or exhibitors.

Easy science projects are usually assigned to students from the kindergarten to early grade school.  As the grade level rises, the difficulty of science fair topics are also expected to increase.  Although students are given the freedom to choose their own projects, their science teachers can guide them so that they will be sure to pick science projects that are appropriate to their grade levels.

Elementary-Level Science Experiment

At the elementary level, children are still learning the basics; you can say that elementary school students are being introduced to the fundamental yet easily understandable scientific tenets.

An example of a good elementary-level science experiment is one that will demonstrate the difference between the boiling temperatures of salt water, tap water and purified water.  Here, the grade school student (with adult supervision, of course) shall boil first salt water, then the tap water and then the purified water.  When the water in the kettle or the pot comes to a boil, the boiling temperature should be measured and recorded for comparison.

Middle School Level Science Experiment

At the middle school, there are much more concepts to explore and learn about.  However, more are expected from middle school students so middle school experiments should be more complicated than what can be expected from elementary students.

An example of a good middle school experiment is one that involves measuring the effect of electricity on various materials.  Specifically, your experiment can demonstrate whether electricity can cause a material to exhibit magnetic properties.

High School Level Science Experiment

At the high school level, science projects should definitely be much more sophisticated than that from elementary and middle school levels.  The topics being studied in high school are, after all, more advanced as well.  For the high school science fair, a good experiment can be manipulating the polarity of solvents and plotting the impact of the changing polarity on their cleaning abilities.
